Red Blend

This Cabernet-inspired blend displays classic notes of cassis, tobacco and chocolate. Focused fruit and shapely tannins shine as hallmarks of what we've come to expect from the sandy soils and slightly cooler climate of our outstanding vineyard sites.

Winemaker's Notes: A dark and brooding cabernet sauvignon-based beauty. Gobs of smoky black fruit. Dusty and herbal notes emerge with air. With more time in the glass, attractive notes of baking spice arise. Remarkably powerful fruit on the attack followed closely by massive structure. Ample fine-grained tannins that completely coat the palate with a gentle hold. The next day this wine becomes luxurious and hints at the epic future ahead. An enormous, yet ultimately refined wine for the classic California cabernet lover, the tannin fanatic, the steak aficionado and the patient c ellar tender.

Winemaker's Notes: Pungent scorched earth on the nose with notes of black truffle, grilled meat, black pepper, cedar and espresso nibs. Reminiscent of steak au poivre. Charming and complex character thanks to the cool 2011 vintage. Herbal and fresh with a pure and velvet-textured palate. Savory notes come to the forefront along with hints of balsamic fig jam. The structure is defined by the fine grit cabernet tannin. Notes of Asian five spice and black plum linger on the finish. Firm tannins that bind the tongue. A very complete wine at this stage with beautiful balance, focus and freshness. Offers immediate pleasure upon popping the cork. Nothing in excess, a wine of precision.

Winemaker's Notes: Alluring and lifted nose of Chambordlike black fruit laced with fresh spice and mint nuances. Garigue aromas of Provence herb and dust in the sun. With air it opens to reveal a combination of fresh herbs, dried bay leaves, smoke, balsamic and black cherry notes. Subtle aromas of orange zest, clove and savory notes arise in the background. Powerful flooding attack of sweet and rich black fruit. The enveloping tannins are reminiscent of dark chocolate as they coat the palate with a cacao-like sensation and lead to a lasting finish dominated by the essence of blackberries. Dense, chewy and balanced, it represents the best of the cool climate brightness and structural intensity of the 2010 vintage.

Winemaker's Notes: A true melange of aromas. Scorched earth, black licorice, olive tapenade, saucisson sec, clove, blueberries, baked goods and orange peel. More dense and concentrated than previous vintages. On the attack it explodes with juicy black fruit and herbal notes. Considering its overwhelming density, it remains elegant, polished and surprisingly restrained. A bit of tightness hints at the expanding future ahead of this young red. Familiar notes of black olive and unsweetened cacao take over on the finish. Thanks to incredibly fine and almost graceful tannins, this brooding blend finishes with great length and persistence.

Winemaker's Notes: An elegant blend combining the cooler side of cabernet (mint, cedar, dust, rosemary and savory notes) with cassis, blackberry and ripe plum—a tantalizing balance of sweet and savory. The classic structure of Cabernet Sauvignon goes perfectly with the round, red fruit and generous density of the Merlot. Leafy and floral hints from the Cabernet Franc blend well with the sanguine touch from Petit Verdot. Everybody brings something to this party resulting in a complete and complex red with fine-grained structure, balance and ageability. A perfect celebration of the cool, long growing season: complexity, balance, subtlety, precision and the perfect amount of power. Though it will age well for years and develop beautiful secondary notes, I find joy in drinking this gem today.

Winemaker's Notes: A heady perfume of blackberry, ripe plums, blueberry and vanilla are complimented by a touch of mint and a beautiful, dusty earth/herbal note. All four varieties bring something to this bottle: cabernet sauvignon shines through in the black fruit on the nose and contributes to the elegant, firm structure. Merlot brings density and weight to the mid-palate and ensures a generous amount of black and red fruit. Floral and herbal elements from the cabernet franc provide grace and add complexity. Even at only 2%, the petit verdot with its sanguine quality and density brings vibrancy and force to the blend. The 2007 red is a powerful blend with complexity and just the right balance of richness and focus. It is our biggest, yet also most elegant Paring Red blend to date.

Winemaker's Notes: Alluring aromas of blackberry and cassis dominate at first on the nose, but soon give way to subtle notes of cedar, black olive, toasty oak, herbal nuances and an earthy/dusty complexity. The perfect marriage of Santa Ynez earthy notes, powerful north coast fruit, and classic cabernet complexity. Rich and dense black fruit leads the way on the palate. Layers of fruit, floral hints and herbs shift as cabernet sauvignon and merlot shine through the blend. Chewy, but fine grained tannins and well balanced acidity lift the finish and allow the black cherry essence to linger.

Winemaker's Notes: Cassis, plum and grilled meat notes jump out from the glass from the Bordeaux varieties. Hints of mushroom, strawberry, truffle and lifted violet from the sangiovese emerge from the wine as it sits in the glass. Powerful nose with a complexity similar to the sangiovese based wines of Italy. Smoke, fruit and flowers. Smooth and generous on the palate with black fruit and earth intermingling. Finishes with melted tannins and a cleansing touch of sangiovese acidity.
